Part of the FGL Materiality Series
Material selection is just one of the ways we can accelerate the built environment’s contribution to net zero and is a critical factor when imagining the buildings of tomorrow. This series will put the spotlight on different materials which are shaping the future of design and construction, exploring their use, benefits and limitations and environmental impact across their full life cycle.
The first session is an exploration of mass timber and CLT, which is fast growing in popularity and prevalence across Australia. As the first renewable product that can replace concrete and steel as a primary building material, CLT presents opportunities to reduce a building’s embodied carbon, project costs and timeframe. While Australia is leading the way with CLT and mass timber adoption, there are still substantial knowledge gaps around production, risk, compliance, and application. This session will explore CLT and mass timber, with a focus on how it can and should be applied to projects now and into the future.
Join 2019 Future Green Leader Adam Jones and Karl-Heinz Weiss (Technical Director DfMA, Head of R&D for Lendlease Digital) as we examine the triple bottom line of CLT and mass timber, and what we are seeing in leading projects. Our speakers will examine:
