Jorge Chapa

Head of Market Transformation

Jorge ensures that GBCA’s strategic priorities, partnerships, and product and services, including Green Star, accelerate the transformation of Australia’s built environment – delivering more liveable, resilient, and sustainable places for everyone.

He has an architecture degree from the University of Monterrey in Mexico and a Masters in Design Science from the University of Sydney.

Jonathan Cartledge

Head of Public Affairs & Membership

Jonathan leads the Public Affairs team encompassing government relations, marketing and communications to drive the uptake of more liveable, productive, resilient and sustainable buildings, cities and communities.

Jonathan brings over 15 years experience in senior management, government relations, strategy and project management roles in the public and not-for-profit sectors in Australia and the UK.

Jonathan is chair of the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council Cities Task Group, he has a Master of International Studies with Honours from the University of Sydney, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Industry Development

Lucy Harris

Head of Industry Development & Partnerships

Lucy is responsible for engaging with the industry to build a valuable and relevant Professional Development and Events program in order to drive understanding of the GBCA’s green star rating tools and more generally, building the industry’s breadth of knowledge around issues relating to sustainability.

Lucy has more than 18 years of experience launching and managing a wide range of events globally including conferences, exhibitions, training courses, seminars and distance learning courses.

Lynne Harman

Legal Counsel & Company Secretary

Lynne supports the governance and legal responsibilities of GBCA. Her role includes ensuring the conduct of board meetings and compliance with the GBCA Constitution and statutory requirements.

Lynne has a BA LLM from the University of Sydney and worked at the commercial law firm, Allens for 20 years. She is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Stephen Thatcher

Head of Finance & Operations

Stephen is responsible for the financial management and general operations of GBCA – from preparing the annual budget through to completion of the organisation's annual financial report.

Stephen has more than 15 years' experience working within the commercial property sector in Australia having previously been with one of Australias leading project management firms.

Senior Manager- Market Engagement

Jamie is a Senior Manager in the Market Engagement team and is based in Melbourne. Jamie works to engage with new and existing members and Green Star project teams to identify opportunities and promote the growth and uptake of Green Star.

Jamie has over ten years experience driving sustainability in the built environment. He has worked closely with the property sector, business and government to design and deliver energy efficiency and sustainable design initiatives.

Nick Alsop

Senior Manager- Market Engagement

Nick is a key interface with industry stakeholders, assisting them to engage with the GBCA’s services and membership offerings, to drive tangible and measurable sustainable build form outcomes aligned with their business priorities.

Based in Melbourne, Nick has over 15 years experience in sustainability leadership, in state and local government. He has experience in sustainable urban design and planning, environmental management, renewable energy deployment and property sector support programs.

Rachel McGinley

Senior Manager - Strategy and Development

Rachael is responsible for our engagement with our industry stakeholders, driving the transformation of the built environment through membership and GBCA sustainability services.

Rachael joined GBCA as a Green Star Technical Manager, and helped produce our rating tool Green Star – Design & as Built. She has over 10 years’ experience as a chartered structural engineer, and has a keen interest in sustainability and heritage buildings. She holds a Master's in Engineering (Engineering Science) degree from Oxford University and is actively involved with Engineers Australia and is the Deputy Chair of the Sustainable Engineering Society.

Devan Valenti

Technical Developer

As a Technical Specialist, Devan manages the Design & As-Built and Interiors rating tools ensuring they are constantly aligned with industry needs and standards.

Before working as a green building consultant in South Africa and the United Kingdom, Devan completed a Master's in Economic & Management Sciences, where his research focused on renewable energy policy development.

Cyrielle Joei

Research & Opportunity Coordinator

Cyrielle works with the Market Engagement team to identify improvements on managing, coordinating and helping the team execute strategies to deliver on targets. Her role includes database management, research and the compilation of statistical reports for senior and executive management.

Cyrielle has a Master in Environmental Sciences and has previously worked on urban ecology renewal and planning consultations projects for local and state government.

Nicole Sullivan

Senior Manager - Green Star Solutions

Leading the Green Star Solutions team, Nicole is responsible for Green Star certification and technical development of the rating system. With a combination of technical expertise and marketing experience, Nicole is able to communicate the complexities of sustainable design and construction in accessible language that resonates with customers. She is focused on maintaining the integrity of Green Star ratings while providing a flexible customer experience.

Simon Ng

Technical Lead

Simon brings his experience working as a consulting ESD engineer and in local government to assist project teams with the technical aspects of the Green Star Rating Tools. His main focus is the Green Star – Performance Rating Tool, which centres on sustainable building operations.

Simon holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Renewable Energy) and a Master of Sustainable Development, both from the University of New South Wales.

Taryn Cornell

Technical Specialist

As a Technical Specialist, Taryn facilitates development and innovation of the rating tools ensuring they are aligned with industry needs and standards.

Prior to joining the GBCA, Taryn worked for over a decade in interior and architectural design specialising in high-end hospitality and residential work, with many years’ on-site project experience. After graduating from RMIT with a Diploma in Interior design, she has developed a detailed and considered approach to delivery and stakeholder engagement, and has a passion for design outcomes that engage community and promote societal betterment.

Sonia De Almada

Certification Lead

Sonia is responsible for overseeing processes relating to Green Star certification, appointing and managing Green Star assessment panels, as well as managing the delivery and continuous improvement of Green Star certification.

Sonia has over 9 years' experience in the green building industry, and has a background in architecture. Sonia has completed a Diploma of Architectural Technology, and a Bachelor of Architecture, with First Class Honours, from the University of New South Wales.

Deejan Ferrao

Technical Coordinator

Deejan delivers technical support to project teams who are working towards their Green Star certification. He has experience in energy efficiency in residential buildings, with a deep interest in passive design strategies and the application of circular economy in the building industry.

Deejan holds a Bachelor of Engineering- Civil from VTU, India and a Master of Sustainable Built Environment from the University of New South Wales.

Eva Zhang

Technical Coordinator

Eva provides technical assistance to project teams working towards Green Star certification. Prior to joining the GBCA, she worked in project management and development management in the property sector, coordinating the delivery of high-end residential and commercial projects. She has an interest in alternative development and delivery methodologies that promote a more affordable, sustainable and quality built environment.
Eva holds a Bachelor of Design in Architecture from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Property from the University of Melbourne.

Emma Bezzina

Technical Coordinator

Emma coordinates our Green Star certification process, helping to ensure that projects are able to deliver on their Green Star objectives. Emma also helps with Green Star queries and record management, and provides administrative support across both our Green Star Solutions and Market Transformation teams.
Emma holds a Bachelor of Environment from Macquarie University.

Nick Baker

Technical Coordinator

Nick provides technical support to project teams that are working towards a Green Star rating and assists in the development of future rating tools. He is passionate about improving environmental, social and economic outcomes in the building industry and has a strong interest in addressing the contribution the built environment makes to long-term climate change.

Nick holds a Bachelor of Resource Economics with Honours from the University of Sydney and is currently studying a Master of Sustainability, also at the University of Sydney.

Technical Coordinator

Benita provides technical support to project teams that are aiming to achieve Green Star certification and contributes to the ongoing development of rating tools.

She has experience in project engineering and has a keen interest in sustainability and the built environment.

Michelle Ajaka

Team Administrator

Michelle joined the GBCA Green Star Solutions team in July 2018, as a team administrator. She provides professional administrative assistance to the Green Star Solutions and Market Transformation Senior Leadership team members. Michelle graduated from the University of Technology, Sydney, with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Environmental Forensics. During her time at University she conducted field work at several locations across NSW and has gained experience in collecting various physiochemical and biological data.

Hugh joined the GBCA Green Star Solutions team in August 2017 as an intern. He is currently completing his second year of studying a B. Architecture and Environments at the University of Sydney. He lived in Hong Kong for 5 years throughout high school and graduated in 2015.

Edwin joined the GBCA team as an intern in November 2017. He is currently studying a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Project Management at the University of Sydney and expects to graduate in 2019.

Senior Advisor- Policy and Government Relations

Sandra works to develop and deliver the GBCA’s advocacy priorities by informing the public policy debate and engaging key stakeholders at all levels. With experience in both state government and industry, she has worked extensively with the property sector to drive sustainable outcomes for the built environment, and is passionate about the future of our cities. She is based in Melbourne.

Helen Bell

Senior Manager - Research

Helen manages the GBCA’s research program, including managing collaborations with universities and industry, measuring customer satisfaction and gathering stakeholder feedback and publishing new research. She has over 18 years of experience in market and social research and strategic planning roles. She holds a BA Communications and a Post Grad Diploma in Environment.

Jeff Oatman

Senior Manager - Membership

Jeff is a Senior Manager of Market Engagement at the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) where he has worked for the past 8 years. Currently managing membership and business development at the GBCA, he brings a wealth of experience in stakeholder engagement and has been a strong supporter of a more sustainable property industry. Originally from Canada, Jeff has come to Sydney via South Korea, where he worked in commercial leasing transaction management for a global real estate consulting firm.

Alexis is the first port of call for all membership queries related to GBCA and is responsible for liasing with over 600 primary contacts at our member organisations. With over a decade’s experience working in administration and customer service roles, Alexis is passionate about going above and beyond to deliver comprehensive and efficient outcomes for our members. Having worked at the GBCA for over five years, she has an in-depth knowledge of our membership structure and can help walk you through the benefits and opportunities of coming on board with us.

Anthony is responsible for the creative development of print and digital collateral used to support the various campaigns, events, products and services offered by the Green Building Council of Australia.

Angela works with the marketing team to grow the GBCA's digital footprint, execute the digital marketing strategy and track the performance of campaigns. Eva processes GBCA’s accounts payables and payroll and assists with month-end procedures.

Eva has a long history in finance having managed the accounts departments of medium size firms and run her own bookkeeping business for the past 15 years.

Tina is an accounting professional who looks after a variety of accounting functions including processing accounts receivable payments and the management of GBCA company credit cards.

Anna is the GBCAs first line of contact and front of house. She has three years experience in office administration and management and has worked previously in the property industry.

With over 20 years experience as a producer, researcher and manager of events, Nicola joined the GBCA after producing several events in the renewable energy space. This sparked a real interest in sustainability and now sees her current role a great combination of this and a passion for delivering professional, engaging events and professional development.

Blandine Vallee

Producer - Events & Professional Development

Blandine is responsible for the research, planning and managing of GBCA events and conferences. She worked for six years as a conference producer developing a range of conference programs in the energy sector in partnership with government and industry stakeholders.

Before she migrated to Australia in 2010, she worked in Montreal (Canada) as a project manager in an eco-district, managing green streets, local residents’ projects and recycling campaigns. She started her work career in France as a communication officer in the sustainability sector on the topic of discrimination in the workplace. Blandine is excited to join an organisation involved in social and environmental responsibility.

Amanda Lam

Professional Development Coordinator

Amanda is responsible for managing the operational aspects of our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program as well as supporting the administrative functions of the professional development team. Amanda is passionate about driving positive change and working towards a convergence between the sustainable built environment, improving the well-being of communities and the economy at large.

Amanda is currently undertaking her final year of Bachelor of Commerce/Arts degree at the University of Sydney.
