Lucy Turnbull AO leaves a strong legacy for liveable cities

The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) extends its deep gratitude to Ms Lucy Turnbull AO for her service as Chief Commissioner of the Greater Sydney Commission and welcomed the appointment of Mr Geoff Roberts AM as her successor.

GBCA CEO Davina Rooney thanked Ms Turnbull noting her extraordinary contribution to shaping the future of the nation’s most populous city.

“As Chief Commissioner, Lucy has been a powerful force in unifying a wide variety of stakeholders behind a bold, innovative vision for metropolitan Sydney,” Ms Rooney said.

“Lucy has transformed the strategic paradigm for our most populous city and the engine room of our economy. 

“Demonstrating outstanding leadership, Lucy has brought about reforms that enable industry to work more closely with government than ever before toward a common objective.

“The GBCA is deeply appreciative of our engagement with Lucy during her time as Chief Commissioner, including delivering keynotes at our conferences, leading industry taskforces and being a champion for our shared vision of creating healthier, more resilient, positive places for people.

“Lucy’s passion for placemaking, for local open spaces, walkability and improving access for everyone, has helped ensure liveability and sustainability are embedded as part of the Greater Sydney Commission’s strategic approach to our built environment, now and into the future.

“Her lasting legacy is in creating a poly-centric vision for greater Sydney can be seen in the strategic planning framework that now exists to guide the transformation of the region into a better connected, productive metropolis.

“We look forward to continuing our close working relationship with the Commission when Geoff takes up the role of Chief Commissioner.”
