GBCA recognised as a Great Place to Work

27 Sep 2019

The Green Building Council of Australia is proud to announce that we have been awarded certification as a Great Place to Work.

Manager of HR and Operations at the GBCA, Catherine Andon said the certification is a great endorsement of the positive and healthy environment that we strive to create for all of our employees.

“We’re thrilled that the GBCA has joined a strong community of businesses who have been recognised as offering a great culture and workplace environment for employees,” Ms Andon said.

Through our Green Star rating tool, the GBCA is focussed on improving the spaces that Australians live, work and play in, from better air quality and abundant natural light, to promoting equality and wellbeing.

“We can proudly say that we are leading by example,” Ms Andon said.

“In 2018, we made a conscious decision to embed ourselves in the 6 Star Green Star rated Communities precinct in Barangaroo – a community that focuses on diversity, high performance, wellbeing and innovation.

“We think it helps that our organisation’s values are reflected in the community where many of us work.

“Of course, we also have employees working remotely from a range of cities. We ensure that our business practices, technology and culture support our agile working arrangements, and we think it delivers better results overall for our members,” Ms Andon said.

In order to achieve certification, businesses are invited to survey their staff across five categories: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie.

Our survey results showed that 95% of our staff believe that the GBCA is a great place to work. Other highlights were:

  • 100% agree that the GBCA is a physically and psychologically safe place to be
  • 100% believe they are treated fairly regardless of age, race, gender or sexual orientation
  • 98% agree that GBCA is welcoming, cares about its staff and has a friendly working environment
  • 98% agree that the GBCA has unique and special benefits including flexibility, health and wellbeing program with yoga, pilates, mindfulness training, fitness bootcamp, snacks and fruit

Great Place to Work is the global authority on workplace culture, specialising in employee engagement, organisational alignment and its effect on high performance workplace culture.
