Green Star – Design & As Built v1.3 and Green Star – Interiors v1.3 have arrived!
Green Star – Design & As Built v1.3 & Interiors v1.3 rating tools have now been released and are available to download from the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) website.
Why is it being updated? In May, the Australian Building Codes Board introduced much welcomed changes to Section J of the National Construction Code. To account for these changes, we are introducing Green Star – Design & As Built v1.3 and Green Star – Interiors v1.3.
Green Star – Design & As Built v1.3 and Green Star – Interiors v1.3 aim to:
- Continue to drive buildings to reduce their emissions in line with the Carbon Positive Roadmap
- Give industry insight on how Green Star will work with the new Section J requirements in the 2019 National Construction Code
This update is mandatory for all projects subject to the 2019 Section J requirements. This includes existing registered Green Star projects.
Those subject to the NCC 2016 Section J requirements can continue to register under Green Star – Design & As Built v1.2 and Green Star – Interiors v1.2 until May 2020.
We congratulate the Australian Building Codes Board on these changes, and look forward to similar actions in the residential sector in 2022. We also thank those in our Greenhouse Gas Emissions Expert Reference Panel, our Technical Advisory Group, our Industry Advisory Group, and the Green Star Advisory Committee for their help in delivering this update.

All registered projects have a free resource folder available in their Green Star Project Manager Portal – this folder contains the Submission Guidelines, Submission templates, Calculators and Calculator Guides – all in one handy zip file that you can download and use for your Green Star Project.
How do I get this? This is located in your Green Star Project Manager Portal, just click on your specific project then go to “Files”. These will be a zip file with the rating tool name ending in “Resource files”.
How much does this cost? It comes free with each registered project.
You can view all the requests for your project in the project record. Even those submitted by other people!

When you submit for assessment, we do a complimentary Pre-assessment review prior to scheduling for assessment. You get notified when the pre-assessment review isn’t successful and things need to be addressed, but did you know you also get notified when the pre-assessment review is successful, and the submission will proceed to assessment?
How do I get this? This is sent to the Primary contact listed within the project records. This may or may not be the Submitter of the request.

You can view the progress of your requests and the estimated response dates.

These are just some of the ways we’ve improved the Green Star Project Manager Portal to help you on your Green Star project. We’re also looking to do more updates to the Portal so that it’s simpler for you to submit for assessment, allow you to track the progress of your project, and so much more.
