The Green Building Council of Australia has been officially certified as a Great Place to Work. We explain what this means and why it’s so important to our organisation.
Since its launch in 2002, the Green Building Council of Australia has set out to create healthy, sustainable places for people. Our Green Star rating tool is focussed on improving the spaces we live, work and play in, from better air quality and abundant natural light, to promoting equality and wellbeing.
In order for the sustainable transformation of Australia’s built environment to evolve, we understand how important it is for us to lead by example, which is why we’re thrilled to announce that the GBCA has achieved its Great Place to Work certification.
Great Place to Work is the global authority on workplace culture, specialising in employee engagement, organisational alignment and its effect on high performance workplace culture. In order to achieve certification, businesses are invited to survey their staff across five categories: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie.
163 companies took part in this year’s survey across a wide range of different industries. The GBCA joined 70 other businesses who employ less than 100 people, coming in at 26 in this category.
We are thrilled with this result, as it’s the first time we have engaged with Great Place to Work Australia, illuminating our incredible team culture. 95% of our staff believe that the GBCA is a great place to work, but where we shine most brightly relates to respect and pride:
These statistics are wonderful reflection of how the GBCA is walking the walk when it comes to creating a positive, healthy environment for our team to prosper, but what is it about working here that suits the diverse individuals that make up our team?
“The GBCA has provided me with the flexibility and support to grow in a professional capacity as well as expand my knowledge of sustainability more broadly,” explains Rebecca Pettit, Operations Lead – Industry Development.
“It’s especially exciting to work in the Industry Development team, which hosts such a diverse range of courses and events, giving me the opportunity to continually engage with the latest topics and leaders in the field of sustainability.”
“We all are so proud that we can call ourselves a Great Place to Work”, says Catherine Andon, HR & Operations Manager, “especially as it was our first time taking part.
For me personally, it confirms what it feels like to work here at the GBCA. I have been working here for almost ten years and the time has flown by mainly due to the amazing people I work with. I have always felt that this is a great place to work and now this has been externally validated.
On a professional level, this certification reaffirms that our HR vision is on the right track. Our aim is to provide excellent employment conditions that offer opportunities for both personal and professional development, with a great work-life balance, and in which our team is committed to doing their best. All in all, a workplace where people feel valued and trusted.
