Three Australian projects finalists in global green building awards

13 Oct 2026

Three Australian projects and innovations have been named finalists in the 2026 World Green Building Council Asia Pacific Leadership in Green Building Awards, showcasing Australian leadership in low-carbon materials, adaptive reuse and sustainable commercial buildings.

Australia’s finalists are:

  • Quay Quarter Tower in the Leadership in Sustainable Design and Performance: Commercial Existing Building category
  • Parkline Place in the Leadership in Sustainable Design and Performance: Commercial New Building category
  • InfraBuild SENSE 600® in the Business Leadership in Sustainability: Industry category

The awards recognise organisations, projects and individuals accelerating the transition to sustainable, resilient and net zero built environments across the Asia Pacific region.

Green Building Council of Australia Chief Executive Officer Davina Rooney said the three finalists demonstrated the impact of Australian innovation across the built environment.

“Australia’s finalists show that sustainability leadership can take many forms. One gives an existing building a bold new life, another creates a world-leading workplace, while the third is revolutionising the materials used in construction,” Ms Rooney said.

“Quay Quarter Tower, Parkline Place and InfraBuild SENSE 600® each demonstrate how ambitious ideas can translate into impactful outcomes.

“We are proud to see Australian leadership recognised on the Asia Pacific stage and congratulate the project teams, organisations and individuals behind these outstanding achievements.”

Quay Quarter Tower: a new life for an existing landmark

Located at 50 Bridge Street in Sydney, Quay Quarter Tower transformed the former AMP Centre through a major adaptive reuse project rather than demolition and complete reconstruction. The project is owned by Dexus Wholesale Property Fund, Mirvac Wholesale Office Fund and Rest.

The project retained 65 per cent of the existing structure and 95 per cent of the original structural walls and core. Its life cycle assessment identified more than 12,000 tonnes of upfront carbon savings from concrete reuse compared with a reference project.

Completed in 2022, the commercial tower has achieved a 6-Star Green Star - Office Design v3 rating and WELL Gold certification, alongside 6 Star NABERS Indoor Environment and Waste ratings and a 5 Star NABERS Energy rating. QQT is also actively managed to support nature, tenants and community outcomes through initiatives including rooftop bee hives, herb gardens, wellness programs and community partnerships.

Dearne Cleary, General Manager, Quay Quarter Tower: “Quay Quarter Tower has helped redefine what is possible for existing commercial buildings. This recognition reflects the vision and collaboration behind the project and reinforces the role adaptive reuse can play in shaping the future of our cities. Its impact continues to resonate well beyond Australia’s built environment.”

Parkline Place: sustainability and wellbeing above Gadigal Station

Parkline Place is a new Premium-grade commercial building on Gadigal Country in Sydney and forms part of Sydney Metro’s Pitt Street Overstation Development above Gadigal Station. Developed and managed by Investa and owned by Oxford Properties Group (“Oxford”) and Mitsubishi Estate Asia, the project was delivered by CPB Contractors. Foster + Partners with Cox Architecture led the architectural design, with Cundall as sustainability consultant.

The building has achieved a 6-Star Green Star Design & As Built v1.3 rating and WELL Platinum Certification v2 Pilot. It is fully electric, powered by renewable electricity and has achieved net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

A life cycle assessment identified a 22.7 per cent reduction in embodied carbon against the GBCA reference building. Structural efficiency and post-tensioned slab design also reduced structural steel and concrete volumes, while the building’s location above the Green Star rated Gadigal Station supports access to public transport and low-carbon commuting.

Jullian Bott, Partner at Cundall: “Parkline Place represents the next generation of commercial development, where sustainability, wellbeing and connectivity are fundamental to creating lasting value. The project demonstrates how the built environment can support a net zero future while delivering an exceptional workplace experience. We are delighted to see these achievements recognised through the Asia Pacific Leadership in Green Building Awards."
