Green Star Champions for 2022 announced

25 May 2022

The Green Star Champions for 2022 have been announced today as part of this year’s first Green Building Day in Brisbane.

GBCA CEO Davina Rooney said the award celebrates professionals across a range of industries who are transforming our buildings and communities to be healthy, resilient and positive through the Green Star principles.

“The Green Star Champions are the stars of Green Star. They work tirelessly in their individual roles to ensure our buildings and communities are good for the environment, healthy for people and ready for the future,” Davina said.

This year’s Green Star Champions represent a range of different companies and institutions who have a shared goal of contributing to a more sustainable built environment.

Ben de Waard, Director of Sustainable Development Consultants said the concept of stewardship has been his guiding principle for as long as he can remember.

“I have always been driven to look after the world that we live in and create better places in which we conduct our lives,” Ben said.

Robyn Hyslop from Lendlease’s Sustainable Futures team has worked in sustainability within the property and construction industry for over 15 years and says she has never seen climate action move as quickly as it is now.

“We have an unparalleled opportunity to drive sustainability at every level and the excitement to get in there and deliver sustainable outcomes is dizzying,” Robyn said.

Healthy buildings and spaces are also important for the 2022 Champions. Hayley Koerbin, Associate Director with Norman Disney Young, says buildings play a significant role in our physical and mental wellbeing.

“Buildings affect more than we realise - our health, thoughts and emotions, and sense of belonging. Buildings that work well enhance our lives, communities and culture, and sustainability consulting directly shapes the built environment to respond to this challenge,” Hayley said.

We thank the 29 Champions for their ongoing commitment to a future that is sustainable and healthy and for inspiring the next generation of Green Star users. We look forward to celebrating the many achievements of the 2022 Champions at Green Building Day events around the country.
