The Green Building Council of Australia’s (GBCA) Chief Impact Officer, Jorge Chapa, has been appointed to the GRESB Foundation Board, the global body that oversees the standards governing ESG (environmental, social and governance) reporting for real assets worldwide.

GRESB is the leading international benchmark for sustainability performance in real estate and infrastructure. The Foundation Board is responsible for ensuring GRESB’s standards remain robust, transparent and aligned with global market and investor needs.

Jorge joins representatives from some of the world’s most influential organisations working to shape the future of sustainable investment and reporting across the built environment.

GBCA Chief Executive Officer Davina Rooney said the appointment reflects Australia’s leadership in advancing sustainable, low-carbon buildings and the global relevance of the Green Star rating system.

“Jorge’s appointment is well-deserved recognition of his deep expertise and long-standing commitment to aligning sustainability frameworks globally,” Davina said.

“GRESB has been a vital partner in helping our industry deliver transparency and accountability on ESG performance. This role strengthens the connection between Australian innovation and global best practice.”

Jorge said he is honoured to contribute to GRESB’s ongoing work to advance sustainability standards worldwide.

“GRESB plays a vital role in shaping how sustainability performance is understood and valued across the built environment,” Jorge said.

“I’m honoured to join the Foundation Board and help strengthen the link between global standards and on-the-ground action, ensuring we can deliver not just a few great buildings, but a billion better ones.”

As GBCA’s Chief Impact Officer, Jorge leads the organisation’s impact strategy, including governance of the Green Star rating system, advocacy for net zero buildings, and international collaboration across initiatives such as CRREM, SBTi, and the Climate Bonds Initiative.

GBCA has long aligned its Green Star framework with global benchmarks such as GRESB, supporting investors and developers to report sustainability outcomes consistently and credibly. Jorge’s appointment further cements GBCA’s role in shaping international ESG standards and ensuring the Australian property sector remains at the forefront of sustainable investment.
