GBCA welcomes four new Board Directors

The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) has welcomed the appointment of four new Directors to its Board following the organisation’s Annual General Meeting held yesterday.

The new Directors are:

  • Dale Connor, Group Chief Operating Officer and CEO of Construction, Lendlease
  • Paul Dalton, Chief Executive Officer, CSR
  • Rowan Griffin, Executive Director ESG, QIC
  • Christina Tonkin, Managing Director, Corporate Finance, ANZ

They replace outgoing Directors Peter Bailey, Julie Coates, Nicole Lockwood, Adrian Pozzo, Anna Skarbek and Andrew Whitson, who retired from the Board at the close of the AGM.

GBCA Chair Anthony Boyd said the new directors bring valuable leadership and expertise from across construction, materials, finance and sustainability.

“Each new Director brings deep experience in sectors central to GBCA’s mission,” Mr Boyd said.

“Their diverse perspectives will help guide GBCA as we continue to strengthen Green Star, expand our industry impact, advance our policy and advocacy work, and support Australia’s transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient future.”

GBCA Chief Executive Officer Davina Rooney said the appointments come at a pivotal moment for the built environment.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Dale, Paul, Rowan and Christina to the Board,” Ms Rooney said.

“Each brings a forward-looking view on how to accelerate change across their sectors. Their leadership will help ensure GBCA remains at the forefront of innovation and collaboration as we deliver our next phase of strategic growth.”

Incoming Director Dale Connor said he was honoured to join the GBCA Board.

'I’m honoured to join the Board of the Green Building Council of Australia at such a pivotal time for our industry,” Mr Connor said.

“The transition to a more sustainable built environment requires deep collaboration, and a shared commitment to delivering outcomes that set new benchmarks for performance, resilience and value. I look forward to working with the GBCA team and my fellow Board members to help accelerate that change.”

Incoming director Paul Dalton said he was pleased to contribute to GBCA’s mission.

“It’s a privilege to join the Green Building Council of Australia Board and contribute to its vital mission of shaping a more sustainable built environment,” Mr Dalton said.

“The challenges of climate resilience and decarbonisation require collaboration and innovation across our industry, and GBCA has been a driving force in setting the standard for healthier, more sustainable communities,” Mr Dalton said.

“I look forward to working with my fellow Board members to accelerate progress on initiatives that matter most, from reducing upfront carbon and construction waste to ensuring that sustainable design becomes the norm for every Australian home and building.”

Incoming Director Rowan Griffin, a former GBCA Board Director and former Chair of the Green Star Steering Committee, said he is proud to return to the organisation.

“It’s a privilege to return to the GBCA Board at a time when sustainability is accelerating across every part of the property and investment landscape,” Mr Griffin said.

“GBCA plays a unique role in translating ambition into credible, measurable action, and I’m looking forward to helping strengthen that impact as we move into the next phase of Green Star’s evolution.”

Incoming Director Christina Tonkin said the property sector has long been a sustainability leader in Australia and GBCA has been integral to its ongoing success.

“With green buildings contributing to ANZ’s social and environmental sustainability target, I am keenly aware of the critical role the sector plays in Australia’s transition,” Ms Tonkin said.

“I believe it’s critical that we demonstrate the broader benefits of sustainability in the buildings in which we live, work and play to help further community support for decarbonising not just the property sector, but the wider Australian economy.”

“I am delighted to support the continuation of Australia’s global best practice in green buildings by joining the GBCA Board.”

Mr Boyd also paid tribute to the outgoing Directors for their significant contribution.

“On behalf of the Board, I want to sincerely thank Peter Bailey, Julie Coates, Nicole Lockwood, Adrian Pozzo, Anna Skarbek and Andrew Whitson for their commitment, wisdom and energy,” he said.

“In particular, I’d like to acknowledge Adrian Pozzo’s outstanding service as GBCA’s former Chair and thank each retiring Director for their leadership in strengthening the impact of both GBCA and Green Star across Australia’s built environment.”
