Launched in 2020, Green Star Buildings is a holistic rating tool designed to meet the challenges of the next decade. It was the first rating tool in the Future Focus program, which set out to redefine Green Star for the next generation of communities, buildings and fitouts.
Our proposed evolution on the Green Star Buildings rating tool will ensure continued alignment with GBCA strategy on:
Green Star Buildings v1.1 addresses feedback on individual credits and provides technical amendments, clarifications and improvements identified by project teams who have used the tool.
Critical changes include:
1. Read the consultation (pdf)
2. Complete the survey online, or by filling out the spreadsheet and sending to consultation@gbca.org.au
Consultation closes on 4 October 2024.
I'm excited to open consultation on version 1.1 of Green Star Buildings. We have proposed some key amendments to the rating tool based on feedback to date, and strategic changes to ensure the next version continues to set industry up for this decade of action. These changes reflect the huge support we’ve received from industry on this rating tool.
Taryn Cornell, Senior Manager Strategy & Development
You can share your feedback on Green Star Buildings v1.1 from 4 September to 4 October 2024.
No, you can submit feedback on as many or as few changes as you like or are relevant to your expertise.
Yes, you can submit feedback as an individual or on behalf of an organisation. A spreadsheet version of the survey is available for your convenience if you would like to collect information across an organisation.
A transition phase of 8 to 12 months is currently proposed from the release of the rating tool update where projects may register for Green Star Buildings v1 or Green Star Building v1.1, with registrations closing for version 1 at the end of 2025. Please refer to the introduction section of the consultation paper for more details. We welcome your feedback on the proposed transition phase.
Projects registered or certified under previous tool versions can continue to use that version for certification. Projects will also have the option to upgrade. Information on how the versions compare will be available once v1.1 is published.
Due to the extensive nature of the proposed changes for v1.1, GBCA is proposing to only allow certain aspects of the new version to be available to v1. Please refer to the introduction section of the consultation paper for more details. We welcome your feedback on the proposal.
