Last week the Australian Government released its Net Zero in Government Operations Strategy which details how it will fulfil its commitment to achieve a net zero APS by 2030. The NSW Government has passed the Climate Change (Net Zero Future) Bill 2023 which enshrines emissions reduction targets of at least 50% by 2030, 70% by 2035, and net zero emissions by 2050. It is the first legislation passed in Australia that explicitly mentions the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.See GBCA's response here Find out more here
The WA Government has introduced the Climate Change Bill 2023 to formalise the state’s long-term target to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and establish statutory requirements to set interim emission reduction targets and develop policies to reduce emissions and enhance climate resilience.Find out more
A regulation to prevent new gas network connections to buildings in the ACT will commence on 8 December 2023 as part of the ACT Government’s plan to transition off fossil fuels and achieve net zero emissions by 2045.Find out more
