There's one thing that binds us together - and you might be the new addition we're looking for.
Have you ever wondered who makes up our team at the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA)?
You might be surprised to learn that we come from all sorts of diverse professional backgrounds.
We’re a team of engineers, architects, event planners, writers, marketers and thought-leaders who have one thing in common – our passion to transform Australia’s sustainable built environment.
Now, we’re on the hunt to grow our Green Star team with the addition of a Technical Specialist.
If you share our passion for sustainability, we want you on board to join the green building revolution.
What do you need to bring to the table?
We’re looking for someone who has a tertiary qualification in engineering, planning, environmental science or a similar discipline to help shape Australia’s future.
What can we offer you?
Here at the GBCA we’re proud of a company culture that incites creativity, collaboration and long term solutions to the environmental challenges our industry faces. We’re a flexible workplace, which means we understand the 9-5 grind doesn’t suit everyone’s needs – and we can facilitate an arrangement that works better for you.
Hear it for yourself
GBCA Technical Manager Karl Desai climbed the ladder and is bracing for a new adventure with our neighbour at the New Zealand Green Building Council. He shares how the organisation has helped him kickstart his career in sustainability.
What did you study prior to joining GBCA?
A Bachelor of Architecture, followed by a Masters in Sustainable Development.
When did you join GBCA?
I joined the GBCA over 3 years ago, in September 2014.
How has your role as Technical Manager developed your understanding of sustainability and the built environment?
The GBCA has provided me with a grounding on sustainability in the built environment. I now have a much greater breadth of knowledge around sustainability from industry leaders in the market. Not only that, but I have a detailed knowledge of topics and projects that I focused on as a Technical Manger.
What’s the biggest opportunity this role has presented to you?
I’ve been able to engage with individuals on a daily basis who are passionate about sustainability. I’ve developed a greater appreciation for how the GBCA drives our industry forward.
What’s the most important skill or lesson you’ve picked up during your time at GBCA?
I’ve learnt how to collaborate better, and that if we want to go further as an industry, we’ll go further together. As the GBCA is built by industry and for industry, I’m constantly seeking to develop solutions which satisfy different stakeholders’ views whilst continuing to drive the industry forward.
What makes the GBCA unique to other workplaces?
The people! A fun, friendly and happy bunch. It’s always a treat coming in on a Monday and catching up over coffee about the weekend or winding down on a Friday afternoon sharing a drink together.
How has the GBCA equipped you to tackle the next chapter in your career?
The GBCA has provided me with a diverse network of industry contacts and an appreciation for sustainability topics that I can tackle next in my career.
