Our Green Star: A year in focus report reaffirms the glimpses of hope we’re seeing shine through as 2020 comes to a close. In collaboration with industry this year we redefined sustainable buildings with the release of our new rating system, Green Star Buildings. In a year that saw our homes become our sanctuary, we also revealed our plan to make the places where we live more resilient and healthier, for us, and the planet too.
While our team continues to develop Green Star for the future, this report shows industry is taking it up at record highs. This year we certified 456 projects; the most ratings issued in a single year. Nick Alsop, Senior Manager Market Engagement says this trend isn’t unprecedented, “Each year we break our certification records, clearly showing why Green Star is the rating tool of choice for the built environment.”
Green Star also continues to make its way into the places in between work and home. Whether it be the industrial facility that stores our online order, the shopping centre we visit during the Christmas rush, or the community where we spend our summer break, chances are it’s been touched by Green Star as more projects turn to the rating tool to meet sustainability targets.
“The adoption of Green Star throughout Australia and across many sectors shows that it is applicable to any building in the country,” said Jamie Wallis, Senior Manager Market Engagement.
The report shares that local governments are the third biggest user of Green Star’s Design & As Built rating tools, and as our local libraries, childcare centres and fitness facilities become Green Star certified, the places where we play and interact are becoming increasingly carbon positive, resilient and healthy.
This year our Volume Certification Program continued to help businesses roll out Green Star at scale by helping them replicate sustainable designs and approaches across multiple sites. Read the report to learn how we helped iconic Australian brands Commonwealth Bank and Country Road implement Green Star across projects around the nation.
Green Star: A year in focus outlines how Green Star offers a clear map to achieving the sustainability goals needed to build a net zero future for next generations. We look forward to working with you on these goals into the future as we continue to release the next evolution of Green Star through our Future Focus program.
