With the festive season in full swing, let’s celebrate our collective achievements in 2018. So, with much fanfare from the pipers and the drummers, we present our 12 months of building green…
12 years of Green Cities and a new future with TRANSFORM. More than 1,000 people gathered in Melbourne in March for the last hurrah of Green Cities, our joint conference with the Property Council of Australia. In June we launched, TRANSFORM to shake up the standard conference with innovative sessions and out-of-the-box ideas.
11 steering the sustainability ship. Our board, ably led by Frasers Property’s chief Rod Fehring, continues to drive an ambitious carbon positive agenda, and was strengthened with the appointment of Cbus Property’s Adrian Pozzo in February and Lendlease’s Josh McHutchison in December.
10 (plus 100) Green Star – Performance projects certified. Reporting performance at the portfolio level has become an accelerator of best practice sustainability. With 110 new certifications this year, the old adage “if it gets measured it gets managed” is now “if it gets measured it gathers momentum”.
9 GBCA members make a net zero commitment. AMP Capital, Frasers Property Australia, The GPT Group, Stockland, Cundall, Dexus, Integral Group, Sydney Opera House and the City of Sydney were the first Australian companies to sign up for the WorldGBC’s net zero commitment this year. Since then Cbus Property and Nightingale Apartments have also come on board.
8 years at the top of GRESB’s table. The Australian and New Zealand real estate market was, once again, named the world’s greenest, after GRESB assessed 79,000 assets worth $4.9 trillion in 64 countries.
7 (million) square metres of Green Star office space. 40% of Australia's CBD office space is Green Star certified – and so is 40% of our retail stock.
6 (hundred) delegates joined us at Green Building Day in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
5 (hundred) Green Star Accredited Professionals. Here’s cheers to all the professionals working together to create healthy, resilient and positive places for people. We also trained people through more than 50 courses, events and workshops.
4 pillars in our new strategic plan. Looking to the future, we are zeroing in on carbon, homes, social infrastructure and creating new value for members.
3 key areas of focus in our first Reflect RAP: relationships, respect and opportunities.
2 (thousand) plus Green Star certifications. We hit the 2000th milestone in November and finished the year with 259 new certified projects including 52 Design & As Built and 56 Interiors ratings.
1 Carbon Positive Roadmap. As we chart a course towards net zero targets, we are helping our industry capture the competitive advantage embedded in a low-emissions future.
Together, our work will ensure those lords-a leap, the ladies dance and those partridges remain happy in their pear trees.
