About us

The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), a national not-for-profit organisation, is the leading authority on green building and actively promotes the development of sustainable, affordable, and liveable buildings, communities and cities.

In 2003, the GBCA launched Australia’s only voluntary environmental rating system for the built environment – Green Star. Green Star evaluates the attributes of buildings and communities based on environmental categories such as energy and water efficiency, indoor environment quality and materials.

About you

You are a building professional with a keen interest in sustainability and will have had experience with the Green Star rating system. You possess a high-level technical understanding of one or more of the following: town and urban planning, green building design and construction, or green building operation and can be thorough, objective and consistent in judgement, are an excellent communicator, reliable, punctual and have the ability to prepare for meetings in advance.  

You are either a project contact on at least one current Green Star registered project or can provide a letter of recommendation from the applicant or project contact confirming your substantial level of involvement on Green Star projects. 

Your formal qualifications include:

  • Tertiary degree in a field of study related to one or more of the following specialties:
    • Building Operations (facility management, property management). 
    • Engineering (mechanical, electrical, environmental, etc.)
    • Architecture (architecture, landscape architecture, interior design). 
    • Construction Management
    • Environmental Science (environmental management, ecology, biology)
    • Or similar built environment-related discipline 
  • Currently licensed or are a registered professional in preferred specialty area. Other professional certifications as relevant to area of expertise.
  • Achieve and maintain Green Star Accredited Professional status for the relevant Green Star streams for which assessments are being conducted.

About the role

We are excited to offer this inspiring opportunity to help shape the outcomes of town and urban planning, green building design and construction, or building operations within Australia. Certified Assessors play a pivotal role in Green Star by reviewing, considering and recommending whether project documentation submitted to the GBCA for a Green Star rating, meets the requirements in order to obtain the desired rating. Integral to the decision-making process, feedback from Certified Assessors is also used to review rating tools and provide clarification on technical issues. The Certified Assessor ensures that each Green Star submission is assessed in an objective, fair and robust manner by following the methodology outlined in the procedures set by the GBCA.

Assessments are usually conducted by teleconference. Professionals from all parts of Australia are encouraged to apply. The position will be offered on a yearly consultancy basis.

Applications will be shortlisted based on the Selection Criteria within the Position Description. It is therefore important to demonstrate how your qualifications meet the appropriate requirements.

Shortlisted candidates may then be required to attend an interview conducted by the GBCA.
