As we continue to navigate the impacts of a changing climate, the need for effective resilience and preparedness strategies are critical. Resilience planning cannot be an after-thought and as such greater stakeholder engagement at the outset is key to ensuring strategic plans are in place to protect communities and the built environment.  But how should practitioners foster a culture that recognises the value proposition of early resilience planning? And how do we tackle and overcome climate vulnerability now to minimise disruption in the future?

This in-depth masterclass will explore the challenges presented by the impacts of climate change and the opportunities to mitigate them.  Through a mix of presentations, case studies, breakout groups and open discussion, you will gain insight from experts who have first-hand experience to address the common pain points that arise when preparing for climate and operational risk.

Key issues to address include:

  • Understanding the critical need for stakeholder engagement at the planning stage and best practice for implementation
  • How to assess and respond to flood and urban heat islands
  • Navigating climate adaptation of existing assets and working within limitations
  • Exploring how to embed resilience and adaptation in design, planning and due diligence
  • Climate resilience assessment for existing buildings – what are the operational considerations?
  • Examining the risk assessment drivers and indicators on existing buildings
  • Addressing where the opportunities exist to make more impactful decisions to prepare and respond to climate related risks

Hear from our expert speakers including:

  • Paul Himberger, Sustainability and Research Manager, Landcom
  • Judith Bruinsma, Project Officer, Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC)
