The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) welcomes the new-look New South Wales Cabinet, and looks forward to working with Premier Berejiklian and her team to build a healthy, liveable, sustainable future.
Anthony Roberts, who has previously held the position of Energy Minister, takes on the role of Minister for Planning and Minister for Housing, while former Attorney-General Gabrielle Upton picks up the Environment portfolio alongside local government.
“We look forward to working with both ministers Roberts and Upton to deliver homes, workplaces and communities that are more affordable, efficient, sustainable and liveable,” Ms Madew says.
Ms Madew also pays tribute to outgoing ministers Mark Speakman and Rob Stokes.
“As Minister for the Environment, Mark Speakman has been a vocal champion for energy efficiency in buildings as a mechanism to build resilience while also boosting the state’s productivity.
“Minister Stokes has been a steadfast supporter of the Green Building Council of Australia and launched the Green Star – Communities rating tool in New South Wales. He was supportive of the new Ingleside precinct registering to achieve a Green Star – Communities rating. This effort alone means that more than 3,400 families who will live, work and play at Ingleside will have positive proof that their community has been built with liveability and sustainability in mind.
“Minister Stokes has delivered practical solutions to some of the previously intractable planning challenges in New South Wales. His establishment of the Greater Sydney Commission is an outstanding example of his ability to look beyond the immediate election cycle to deliver the long-term reform required.
“As they move into their new portfolios, ministers Stokes and Speakman leave behind a great legacy of reform that will deliver lasting benefits for the people of New South Wales,” Ms Madew concludes.
