Jorge Chapa

Head of Market Transformation

Jorge ensures that GBCA’s strategic priorities, partnerships, and product and services, including Green Star, accelerate the transformation of Australia’s built environment – delivering more liveable, resilient, and sustainable places for everyone.

He has an architecture degree from the University of Monterrey in Mexico and a Masters in Design Science from the University of Sydney.

Stephen Thatcher

Head of Finance and Operations

Stephen is responsible for the financial management and general operations of GBCA – from preparing the annual budget through to completion of the organisation's annual financial report.

Stephen has more than 15 years' experience working within the commercial property sector in Australia having previously been with one of Australias leading project management firms.

Legal

Lynne Harman

Legal Counsel & Company Secretary

Lynne supports the governance and legal responsibilities of GBCA. Her role includes ensuring the conduct of board meetings and compliance with the GBCA Constitution and statutory requirements.

Lynne has a BA LLM from the University of Sydney and worked at the commercial law firm, Allens for 20 years. She is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Michael Manikas

Head of Industry Development

Michael has had a long association with the GBCA having contributed to numerous research projects and publications over the years as well as presenting at GBCA events including several Green Cities conferences.

In his current role Michael is overseeing the development of the professional development program with both face to face and online content. Michael is also leading the events team to grow our offering to our members as well as assisting with the delivery of Green Cities conference.

Finally Michael will be engaging with our members to grow the partnerships between the GBCA and its members through a new sponsorship arrangement.

Jonathan Cartledge

Head of Public Affairs

Jonathan leads the functions of Market Communications, government relations and stakeholder management to drive the uptake of more liveable, productive, resilient and sustainable buildings, cities and communities.

Jonathan leads the GBCA’s government relations and stakeholder management to drive the uptake of more liveable, productive, resilient and sustainable buildings, cities and communities.

Jonathan brings over 15 years experience in senior management, government relations, strategy and project management roles in the public and not-for-profit sectors in Australia and the UK.

Jonathan is Chair of the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council Cities Task Group, he has a Master of International Studies with Honours from the University of Sydney, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Naomi Martin

Senior Manager Strategic Products & Services

Naomi Martin has 15 years’ experience as a sustainability specialist within the government, consulting and not-for profit-sectors in Australia and the United Kingdom. Most recently, Naomi was the Environmental Sustainability Manager for the Sydney Opera House.

Naomi’s previous experience includes time with EPA Victoria, coordinating environmental assessments for windfarms in Scotland, and environmental studies and consulting for major construction projects with SKM and work in environmental advocacy and training at the NSW Minerals Council.

Nicole Sullivan

Senior Manager

Leading the Market Transformation team, Nicole is responsible for Green Star certification and rating tool development. With a combination of technical expertise and marketing experience, Nicole is able to communicate the complexities of sustainable design and construction in accessible language that resonates with customers.

Simon Ng

Technical Manager

Simon brings his experience working as a consulting ESD engineer and in local government to assist project teams with the technical aspects of the Green Star Rating Tools. His main focus is the Green Star – Performance Rating Tool, which centres on sustainable building operations.

Simon holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Renewable Energy) and a Master of Sustainable Development, both from the University of New South Wales.

Devan Valenti

Technical Specialist

As a Technical Specialist, Devan manages the Design & As-Built and Interiors rating tools ensuring they are constantly aligned with industry needs and standards.

Before working as a green building consultant in South Africa and the United Kingdom, Devan completed a Master's in Economic & Management Sciences, where his research focused on renewable energy policy development.

Sonia De Almada

Manager Certification

Sonia is responsible for overseeing processes relating to Green Star certification, appointing and managing Green Star assessment panels, as well as managing the delivery and continuous improvement of Green Star certification.

Sonia has over 9 years' experience in the green building industry, and has a background in architecture. Sonia has completed a Diploma of Architectural Technology, and a Bachelor of Architecture, with First Class Honours, from the University of New South Wales.

Ulises Demeneghi Cervantes

Technical Coordinator

Ulises provides support to external project teams working towards Green Star certification. He also maintains the Green Star rating tools to ensure they meet industry requirements and lead to sustainable, efficient and inspiring developments.

With a Master of Engineering Science from the University of New South Wales, his major areas of expertise lie in the PV, solar and renewable energy fields, with a focus on their applications in the built environment.

Matt Adams

Technical Coordinator

Matt works closely with Green Star project teams to provide technical advice and guidance from an on-site perspective – encouraging the adoption of Green Star rating tools to transform the built environment.

Matt studied Civil Engineering at The University of Wollongong before completing his honours studies at the Sustainable Building Research Centre (SBRC) at The University of Wollongong where his focus was on passive design, energy analysis and retrofitting of existing buildings.

Tricia Rimando

Technical Coordinator

Tricia delivers technical support to project teams as they work towards Green Star certification. She has experience in green product certification and an interest in its applications for a sustainable built environment.

Tricia holds a Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of the Philippines and a Postgraduate Certificate in Engineering Science from UNSW.

Rachel McGinley (parental leave)

Senior Manager

Rachael is responsible for our engagement with our industry stakeholders, driving the transformation of the built environment through membership and GBCA sustainability services.

Rachael joined GBCA as a Green Star Technical Manager, and helped produce our rating tool Green Star – Design & as Built. She has over 10 years’ experience as a chartered structural engineer, and has a keen interest in sustainability and heritage buildings. She holds a Master's in Engineering (Engineering Science) degree from Oxford University and is actively involved with Engineers Australia and is the Deputy Chair of the Sustainable Engineering Society.

Jeff Oatman

Senior Manager

Jeff works with industry to help align the GBCA’s products and services to organisational sustainability strategies.

Joining the GBCA in 2010, Jeff worked across the business managing Green Star certification, and most recently managing Professional Development. Originally from Canada, Jeff has come to Sydney via South Korea, where he worked in commercial leasing transaction management for a global real estate consulting firm.

Nick is a key interface with industry stakeholders, assisting them to engage with the GBCA’s services and membership offerings, to drive tangible and measurable sustainable build form outcomes aligned with their business priorities.

Based in Melbourne, Nick has over 15 years experience in sustainability leadership, in state and local government. He has experience in sustainable urban design and planning, environmental management, renewable energy deployment and property sector support programs.

As manager of market engagement, Nadia works closely with our members to build our membership base, foster current membership relationships and delivers the practical elements of the teams strategy. Nadia’s aim is to strengthen, build and engage the industry in current sustainability initiatives.

Nadia has over 7 years’ experience managing the business development of member associations. She holds a Bachelor of Liberal Studies (Honours) at the University of Sydney.

Luke engages with state and local governments to promote and communicate the uptake of sustainability in our built environment and communities.

Luke has previously worked within a number of Australian Government bodies and brings this experience to GBCA. Luke holds a Masters of Public Health from the University of Wollongong and certification from the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2).

Lorna is responsible for the development and implementation of GBCA’s Marketing and Communications strategy – using digital marketing to promote the advancement of sustainable building practices.

An award winning journalist, Lorna has worked across print, radio and online platforms. Lorna holds an Honours degree in Journalism and has undertaken a post graduate qualification in Communications & PR.

With over 10 years of extensive experience in implementing IT solutions to corporations and small enterprises, Ben Fausti comes to GBCA with a wealth of IT knowledge.

Amanda is responsible for managing the operational aspects of our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program as well as supporting the administrative functions of the professional development team.
